WORK CAREER

Whether in the realm of business, finance, art or community service, Steve Matsuura has been a constant advocate for improving Japanese-U.S. understanding and cooperation.
Mr. Matsuura’s impressive career has taken him to London, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Steve joined The Sanwa Bank Limited, Head Office in Japan in 1963 right after graduation from Kyoto University. Over the years he has held many positions including Deputy General Manager of Corporate Planning Department, Assistant to the President & CEO, General Manager of Corporate Communications Department, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sanwa Bank California, General Manger of New York Branch, President of Sanwa Bank Trust Company of New York, Chairman of the Management Committee of Sanwa Securities (USA) Co. L.P and Sanwa Financial Products Co. L.P.

Steve was elected to the following positions:

• 1990-1998, Board of Directors of the Sanwa Bank, Ltd., Japan
• 1992-2002 Board of Directors of Sanwa Bank California
• 1998, appointed as Chairman of the Board of Sanwa Bank California and Senior Advisor at the Sanwa Research Institute and Consulting Corporation, Japan
• April 1999 appointed Visiting Professor of Law at Osaka University
• April 2002 Board of Directors of Bank of the West
