For many years, Steve Matsuura has worked diligently and tirelessly in support of many international and community organizations. He has the reputation of being the "go to" person. Over the years he has built an impressive network of contacts, friends and colleagues with whom he can consult on almost any type of project. Steve is known for his ability to formulate strategic plans and get results.
PHILANTHROPIC ACTIVITIES

- Co-chair of the upcoming 150th Anniversary Celebration, and official U.S., commemorating the arrival of the Kanrin Maru in San Francisco.
- Christmas Concert for Kimochi Kai (Convalescent Home), with the Japanese Consul General. For twelve years Steve performed at these Christmas concerts with five different Consuls General.
- Bunraku (Japanese Puppet Theater from Osaka). Chairman of the Steering Committee. Instrumental in bringing Bunraku to the United States and San Francisco as part of the San Francisco-Osaka Sister City Association’s 50th Anniversary.
- Japanese American National Museum, LA. Assisted with the capital fund to build the new Museum, which included the negotiation with Keidanren for the donation of $1 million. The economic downturn in Japan impacted this contribution. As a result Steve visited all the participating companies encouraging them to fulfill pledged donations.
- Metropolitan Museum of New York. Served as Vice Chairman of the International Committee. Bubble burst in Japan requiring personal follow up with Japanese firms committed to supporting the Museum.
- Harmonia Opera Company. Assisted with fund raising activities.
- Berkeley International House. Introduced and assisted in organizing a special Flute Concert and Japanese dance performance.
- Chair of the Board of Directors Trip to Japan for the Japan Society, 2005. Organized and directed all meetings and social activities at the occasion of the Japan Society Centennial.
- Special art exhibition at St. Mary’s Cathedral, of 100 drawings by Tomihiro Hoshino. Mr. Hoshino, a gym teacher in Japan, was paralyzed from the neck down as a result of an accident while working on the rings. He learned to paint holding the brush in his mouth.
